Since its inception in 1973 on Dorset St. in South Burlington, the Chimney Sweep
has worked hard to bring you the best in wood stoves. Offering classics like Garrison,
Elmira, Vermont Castings and Jotul, the business outgrew its cramped location.
Owner Roy L’Esperance purchased a large 14,000 square foot double A-frame building
on Shelburne Road and opened a spacious new showroom in the right side of the
building. The ensuing years have seen a multitude of changes in the displays of
stoves, fireplaces and accessories. Multiple expansions have made the Chimney
Sweep one of the largest retail hearth shops in the United States. The constantly
evolving displays feature fireplaces installed in walls, cabinets, bars, and wall
units. Our brand new kitchen appliance center features Heartland appliances. We
have working gas stoves and fireplaces tucked in every conceivable spot in the
store so you can appreciate the beauty and realism of today’s gas technology.
During the season, there is always a woodstove going on the massive stone central
hearth.
Chimney Sweep II, opened on the Barre-Montpelier Road in 1978, and moved to new
quarters in 1999. Located in the same shopping center, the new store tripled the
available floor space. The additional room allowed the installation of working
fireplaces and gas stoves, bringing a Fire Light Design Center to Central Vermont.
The Chimney Sweep Hearthside Shoppe, purchased in 2001, allows us to better service the North Country of New York. Recognizing the amount of business we have done in this area through the years, it was felt that it would benefit our customers for us to have a presence there. The reception we have received confirms our belief. |
